This app provides some amazing tools for an incredible price. The person that left the review mentioning the location of the files being buried obviously did not check the app’s preferences. You can change this location to anywhere you want. You can also open preferences from within the window (something else they mentioned) using the typical ⌘,

Got it on sale but would not have hesitated to pay full price. Custom storage locations are perfect for using Copy or Dropbox to sync across machines.

The functionality this offers is incredible. These are small tasks that have always taken me out of my workflow to accomplish. Think of it like a scratch pad, a place to store temporary things that you won’t need forever but need close by for a short time.

Ive been using this for a while now and it works great. Its my favorite of the "drop stack" style apps for holding files before they are moved. I really dont like the new design though. Yosemite is flatter than before, but still uses some textures, gradients, and shapes. This design strikes more like a Windows 8-style "squares, text, and nothing else" design. Aesthetically I dont like it, plus its harder to distinguish the different sections now.

I like it, but I only got it because of it’s price drop to $2. It really needs more work, such as allowing the file pane to show in list view, adding more panels, adjusting the size of the drop-down drawer, and other minor things, but showing the files pane in list view is a big one for me.

This great app is very handy to have on your Mac. The most recent update brought some nice new features and a neat new UI design. I’d definitely recommend buying it. Follow-up: After a few weeks of use, I have this to add: Multiple notes is a brilliant new feature. It’s an excellent, always accessible and now easy-to-organize notepad that sits above every screen on your Mac. It’s terrific if you have to jump between several apps while working, but still need to have certain text/notes accessible.

For ever useful, great layout, so easy and no lags at all. Worth its price, thank you.

The other reviewer was concerned because the root folder for this app is inaccessible; however, one can change the location of the root folder by going to the Preferences menu. One can set up the root folder wherever one wishes.

I stopped using this app a while ago for some reason that I can’t remember. (I think that there was some minor big that I couldn’t get past.) But I just rediscovered it, and I’m thrilled that I did! The developer has clearly put a lot of work into bringing the app up to speed from both design and functionality standpoints. I once again have a spotless desktop thanks to the file storage capability of Unclutter. The option to create multiple notes is a welcome addition as well. And the Yosemite-themed skin looks phenomenal! I also really appreciate the privacy feature of the clipboard tool (certainly don’t want my 1Password content showing up there). This app really needs more attention. It’s by far one of the best apps on the Mac App store and truly adds some necessary functionality to OS X.

I have been using it almost everyday since I got it maybe a year or so ago. It’s latest incarnation is very useful! specially the clipboard, play with it and you will realize it’s true potential to save you time coding. I have used other clipboards like Alfred’s and Flycut… both just didn’t measure up to the Unclutter clipboard. Each version of this app has worked hassle free, it just feels right having it hidden behind your menu bar, like your own little secret place that no one knows about. I love this app, thank you to the developers for creating it. Edit. Verison 2.0.5 is really beautiful, I like that it’s possible to view items in the files folder as lists! Still runs smooth as well! Future ideas, I’m not sure it’s necessary but for future updates including “themes” would be nice. If not include a night version please.

The longer I’ve had this app, the more I find myself using it, until it has become indispensable. The latest update brought significant improvements, too.

This is a great simple to use utility. I just wish it had dark mode. Everything needs a dark mode. I hope Apple finally gets it. I think they are starting to. I use light mode during the day and dark mode at night on both OS X and iOS wherever it’s supported.

This is what I was looking for. I got noticed thaks to the good comments by LifeHacker.com web page. Really, it is very very or extremely useful!

The developer has continue to provide excellent support and updates to already indispensable app! I used so much that it’s hard to really put a value on it. Great update, love the auto theme detection and new dark mode.

One of my most used apps. Brilliant concept and activation method. Had to update my review. It has gotten better.

5th update: dark theme available, back to 5 stars!! awesome app, support. i personally prefer a darker pallet but i guess this works with apple ui, and will satisfy most users. Cant let that hold back a good rating. ============ 4th update: Changing rating back to one, dark UI not available yet, and it has been months since the developer said he/she would be implementing a dark skin soon. ============= 3rd update: Within a day of writing this review I was contacted by the developer of the app saying that he/she will be fixing it soon. So I guess it is safe to say that the developer is actually good at his/her job and single star review is not really a fair thing to do. bumping it up to 4 stars for now. Hope this app soon becomes fantastic again and I can give it a 5 star rating. =========== update: no, cant tolerate it anymore. I give up. burned my 5$. this UI is just too bad. For some reason was expecting better from a developer that makes a fantastic tool, would atleat give me an option to use a darker UI. but whatever, people I guess care a lot more about ’trends’ rather than real user. Moving down to 1 star. =========== Loved this tool, now it also has a ligh background without the option to change it to a darker background. Give me an option for a darker background or classic theme. Otherwise an awesome tool.

I really like this app. The developer responds to my emails promptly and is very receptive of new ideas.

If youre a minimalistic organization fiend who has always despaired at having nowhere to store those files that dont warrant a permanent place in your file/folder hierarchy, and bemoaned the need for keeping an unsightly, inelegant "notes.txt" file for tiny jottings--turns of phrase, quotes, reminders--as a less hideous solution to having a separate text file for each, look no further: Unclutter is your dream come true. This app creates an unobtrusive, logical, and easily accessible place for those files and notes. It also displays the current contents of your clipboard, saves the history, and lets you delete any item (the notes panel has the same display/save/delete logic) or clear them all. Six dollars is worth paying for the peace of your minimalistic, fiendishly organized mind.

I’ve tried several apps that assist in keeping the Mac Desktop clear of clutter. I like the fact that this one isn’t automatic or based on rules… I’m in charge. It’s a simple matter to drag files and folders up to the top of the screen and drop them there. I also like that I can specify where the ‘home’ folder for the clutter gets located so it is still searchable by Spotlight. Although the Clipboard and Notes features are available, I don’t use them. For the small price this app enables a lot of productivity.

One of those apps you never heard about, but once you start using it you wonder how you ever used your Mac any way else. It’s is maddeningly simple and helpful. Money very well spent. They have excellent customer support.
